Finally, a Weighted Blanket Made for Hot Sleepers

Bearaby Hugger weighted blanket, $400>Buy Now from Bearaby

I’m on the record as true weighted-blanket enthusiast. Heavy bedding isn’t just a silly, vaguely health-focused trend, like raw water or that juice-bag startup. The best weighted blankets actually make falling asleep a lot easier. Their dense fills lull you into a deep calm, not unlike the comforting embrace of a loving partner. The problem? The vast majority are absolute furnaces, with all the breathability of a dental x-ray vest.

This is no big deal if you’re the kind of cold-blooded person who throws on a parka the moment the temperature dips below 60. But if you’re a hot sleeper, it means the vast majority of bed-size weighted blankets are just total non-starters. Something like the superlative Bearaby Cotton Napper (or it’s Tencel-based friend the Tree Napper) almost works, thanks to its looped construction that features plenty of holes for extreme breathability, but its throw size is just too short for most people to sleep comfortably under (it’s more of a cozy-up-on-the-couch blanket).

Well, thanks to Bearaby’s latest release—a breathable weighted blanket big enough for your bed— the summer nights spent kicking off your comforters and quilts off are over. The Bearaby Hugger takes everything that’s good about its Napper and blows it up to the size of a Queen bed. Thanks to the same loosely-chained loops of very-tightly-woven fabric, sleeping under the Hugger gets you all the snuggle of a weighted blanket with none of the suffocation. And while I wish the Hugger came in as many of the vibrant color and pattern options as the Napper, its muted two-tone color admittedly gives my bed the elevated, clean look of a Scandinavian spa. In my quarter-century of life as a hot sleeper, I’ve found nothing more comfortable than this colossal weighted blanket.
